On Sunday, July 19, 2026, at approximately 7:59 P.M., I, Deputy Peoples, responded to [REDACTED] for a domestic incident.

Once on scene, I spoke with Wayne “Chuck” Brown. He stated they were having a gathering at his house. He and his wife, Shawna Brown, began to argue over their son’s ([REDACTED BY AGENCY]) glasses. The argument escalated as they entered their house. While arguing inside the house, Shawna said she was leaving and taking [REDACTED BY AGENCY] with her.

As they exited the house, the altercation became physical. Wayne said his only involvement in the physical altercation was defending himself. Shawna left the residence by herself. Wayne said he did not want anyone to go to jail. I advised Wayne that I would be writing a report on the incident. Shawna was not on the scene for me to interview during this call.

At approximately 9:16 P.M., I responded to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, 511 Southern Pines Rd, for a walk-in wanting to speak to a deputy. Once on scene, I spoke with Shawna Brown, who stated she heard that deputies were looking for her. I asked her about the incident. She confirmed there was an argument over her son’s glasses. She also stated the altercation became physical as she was trying to leave with her son. She admitted to striking Wayne during the physical altercation. She also provided security camera footage of the incident. While I was speaking with Shawna, Wayne pulled up to the Sheriff’s Office.

The camera footage shows both Shawna and Wayne exiting the house. They shove each other and attempt to hit each other with their hands. Shawna also falls to the ground during the altercation and attempts to kick and strike Wayne while he is attempting to strike her. After Shawna gets back on her feet, she re-engages with Wayne until a third party can separate them.

Both Shawna and Wayne were taken into custody at the Sheriff’s Office for Simple Battery in accordance with the Family Violence Act and for Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree due to their son being present and witnessing the incident.
