On May 26, 2026, at 21:42 hours, I was dispatched to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] regarding a stabbing incident. The complainant informed Central Dispatch that her brother had stabbed her stepfather. Sergeant Martin (966) and I arrived on the scene at 21:50 hours.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Martin and I made contact with a female at the front of the driveway, later identified as Juvenile [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that everyone was still inside the residence. We entered through the front door and immediately observed the victim, Mr. [VICTIM #1], sitting on a couch directly across from the doorway, holding a paper towel to his stomach and appearing to apply pressure on a wound. I noticed a heavy blood trail running down his pants.
Next to Mr. [VICTIM #1] was a female identified as Ms. [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that the suspect, Mr. Adrian Favela-Rios, was in the room and pointed towards an area that was not immediately visible to us. We proceeded further into the living room and observed Mr. Favela-Rios sitting cross-legged with his back to us. We immediately detained him.
Sgt. Martin placed Mr. Favela-Rios in double-locked handcuffs behind his back and checked for proper fit before securing him in the rear of his patrol car with a seatbelt. The rear of the patrol car was cleared of contraband. I secured the weapon used, a black and silver kitchen knife, in the front seat of my patrol car, placing it in a brown evidence bag.
Liberty County Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and began treating Mr. [VICTIM #1]’ injury, which was a stab wound in his lower abdomen.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] explained that he and Mr. Favela-Rios had argued after Mr. [VICTIM #1] attempted to speak with him following an argument between Mr. Favela-Rios and his mother, Ms. [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. After briefly talking with Mr. Favela-Rios, Mr. [VICTIM #1] went into a separate room. When he returned, he reported that Mr. Favela-Rios “came at him” with a kitchen knife. Mr. [VICTIM #1] attempted to grab Mr. Favela-Rios’ wrist in an effort to disarm him. Mr. [VICTIM #1] kicked Mr. Favela-Rios’ feet from under him causing him to fall to the ground. During the struggle, Mr. [VICTIM #1] took possession of the knife and realized he had been stabbed.
I spoke with Ms. [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who explained that she and her son had argued over a cell phone that she refused to give back. She took the phone because Mr. Favela-Rios has epilepsy and should limit his screen time. After their argument, Ms. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] left the residence to take a walk and cool down. When she returned, she met her daughter outside, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who advised her not to go inside yet because Mr. Favela-Rios was still upset. They sat on the steps in front of the residence talking when they both heard a thud from inside. They entered the residence and found Mr. Favela-Rios on the ground while Mr. [VICTIM #1] stood nearby, bleeding from his abdomen and holding the knife.
Sgt. Martin requested the on-call general crimes detective. Detective Sergeant Mapp (949) and Detective McCrary (947) arrived on the scene. I briefed them on the incident and turned the investigation over to them.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] was transported to Memorial Health Medical Center by EMS due to his injuries.
Sgt. Martin placed Mr. Favela-Rios under arrest for aggravated assault. He searched Mr. Favela-Rios and found no contraband. After securing him in the rear of his patrol car with a seatbelt, Sgt. Martin transported Mr. Favela-Rios to the Liberty County Jail, where he transferred custody to the jail staff without incident. Sgt. Martin then cleared the backseat of his patrol car after removing Mr. Favela-Rios.
