Vehicle 2 was traveling eastbound on Elma G Miles Parkway in the #1 lane, right-hand lane. Pedestrian 1, [VICTIM #1], was afoot on Elma G. Miles Parkway. Vehicle 2 impacted Mr. [VICTIM #1] and left the area without stopping. Responding officers searched the area for Vehicle 2 and could not locate it.

Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and assessed Mr. [VICTIM #1] and then requested the Liberty County Coroner’s Office to respond to the scene. Liberty County Coroner, [REDACTED], responded. Coroner [REDACTED] pronounced Mr. [VICTIM #1] deceased and took control of [VICTIM #1]’s body.

I conducted an on scene investigation. I collected Mr. [VICTIM #1]’s shoes and pieces of a headlight assembly that were on the roadway at the area of impact. I photographed the crash scene and Mr. [VICTIM #1]s body on the roadway and marked the scene for later reference. There were no skid marks or other evidence found on the roadway. The items I collected were later logged into the Hinesville Police Department Evidence Locker.

I spoke with [WITNESS #1], a witness, who stated he was standing in the parking lot at 818 Elma G Miles Parkway, Frozen Paradise Bar. He said he watched as pedestrian 1 jaywalked across Elma G Miles Parkway earlier in the evening around 9:00 P.M. Mr. [WITNESS #1] said he later saw Pedestrian 1 walking across Elma G Miles Parkway southbound towards the driveway of Frozen Paradise and Pedestrian 1 was in the #1 lane, right-hand lane, when he was impacted by Vehicle 2 which was traveling eastbound on Elma G Miles Parkway. He does not know where Pedestrian 1 entered the roadway from. He said Vehicle 2 then left the area and he saw it turning onto Sharon Street. He described Vehicle 2 as either a silver Chevrolet Equinox or Traverse. He later said it was a silver Chevrolet Traverse.

[WITNESS #2], a witness, stated he was walking across Elma G Miles Parkway ahead of Pedestrian 1. Mr. [WITNESS #2] said he saw a red SUV traveling eastbound on Elma G Miles Parkway in the #1 lane, right-hand lane. He said he had reached the curb when the red SUV swerved and missed him, but it impacted with Pedestrian 1. Mr. [WITNESS #2] said Pedestrian 1 was in the #1 lane, right-hand lane, when he was impacted. He said Vehicle 2 then left the area, traveling eastbound on Elma G Miles Parkway towards Veterans Parkway. He could not provide a make or model for the red SUV.

The investigation is continuing.
