On 5/29/2022 at 2304 hours I was dispatched to 751 W Oglethorpe Hwy (Walmart) in reference to a shoplifting.
I arrived on scene and made contact with loss prevention, [WITNESS #1]. He stated two individuals used the self-checkout line and did not pay for all their items before leaving the store.
The two individuals were still on scene in front of the business and were identified as Larry Harris and Callie McDuffie. They stated they did pay for the items and had the receipts. They agreed to have their items rescanned at customer service to compare receipts. After rescanning the items, it was found that the two did not pay for fourteen of the items for a total of $119.41.
Mr Harris and Ms McDuffie were placed under arrest for shoplifting. They were both placed in handcuffs, checked for fit and double locked. Mr Harris was searched with no contraband found. Ms McDuffie’s person was searched with no contraband found. S/cpl Wong 143 searched Ms McDuffie’s bag which contained four used syringes, a social security card and passport belonging to [REDACTED], five identification documents belonging to [REDACTED], a citizens bank check book, and twenty-five debit/credit cards all belonging to different people. Ms McDuffie stated some the items belong to friends and other items she had found.
I viewed video surveillance of Mr Harris and Ms McDuffie at register 34. Both parties could be seen scanning some items and putting unscanned items in bags before leaving the store. Mr Harris and Ms McDuffie were given a refund for the items that they paid for.
While searching Ms McDuffie’s bag, Mr Harris fainted and fell face first onto the floor. EMS was notified and responded. EMS arrived on scene and cleared Mr Harris.
Ms McDuffie was transported to Liberty county jail by ofc Santiago 160 and released to their custody. Mr Harris was transported to LCJ by ofc Johnson 134 and released to their custody.
Mr Harris and Ms McDuffie were issued citations for shoplifting less than $500.00. Both parties were issued criminal trespass service notice for Walmart with an expiration date of 5/31/2023.
The four syringes were logged and placed in drug evidence locker 3 at the Hinesville police department. The social security card and passport belonging to [REDACTED], five identification documents belonging to [REDACTED], a citizens bank check book, and twenty-five debit/credit cards were logged and placed in evidence locker 005 at HPD.
Mr [WITNESS #1] was given a case number and instructions on how to get a copy of this report.
My department issued body camera was worn and activated during this incident.
