On 07/07/2026 at approximately 0200 hours, I was dispatched to Coastal Oaks Mobile Home Park, Lot [REDACTED], in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon my arrival, I observed a male, later identified as Mr. [VICTIM #1], lying on the ground with a deep laceration to his left leg. I asked Mr. [VICTIM #1] what had happened, but he stated that he was not going to provide any information. Due to the severity of the injury, EMS was dispatched to the scene to evaluate Mr. [VICTIM #1].
I made contact with Mr. [VICTIM #1]’s mother, Ms. Mary Diaz, who stated that she and her son, Mr. [VICTIM #1], had gotten into an argument. Ms. Diaz stated that Mr. [VICTIM #1] got in her face, began yelling at her, and pointed his finger at her. She stated that she grabbed a box cutter that was lying on the couch beside her but could not remember whether she swung it at Mr. [VICTIM #1] or whether he fell into it because he was standing so close to her. Ms. Diaz further stated that after seeing how badly Mr. [VICTIM #1] had been cut, she called 911 to request EMS transport him to the hospital.
I advised Ms. Diaz that she was under arrest for aggravated assault. I placed her in handcuffs, doublelocked them, checked them for proper fit, and secured her in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle. Mr. [VICTIM #1] was transported by EMS to Liberty Regional Medical Center. EMS personnel advised that Mr. [VICTIM #1] would require stitches for the laceration.
I contacted Detective Watt by telephone and advised him of the incident. Detective Watt advised that he was en route to recover the weapon used during the incident. Upon his arrival, I turned the scene over to Detective Watt. Detective Watt requested Animal Control respond to the scene because Ms. Diaz had multiple aggressive dogs that prevented officers from safely clearing the residence and securing the weapon. Animal Control arrived on scene, the dogs were safely contained, and the box cutter was recovered.
I transported Ms. Diaz to the Liberty County Jail, where she was booked and turned over to jail staff without incident.
