On 9-2-22 at approximately 0857 hours, while stopped at the light on Veterans Pkwy and Elma G Miles Pkwy, I verified the registration on a white 2020 Nissan Versa through NCIC and GCIC.
The vehicle came back as the registered owner Zacchia Sherrod having her license revoked in the state of Georgia. I activated my emergency equipment (lights and siren) and conducted a traffic stop.
I made contact with the driver (Ms Sherrod) and introduced myself and the reason for the stop.
Ms Sherrod was able to provide a Georgia identification card and a North Carolina license. I advised Ms Sherrod her privileges to drive in the state of Georgia had been revoked. During my interaction with Ms Sherrod I smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from her vehicle. Ms Sherrod stated she did not have any marijuana in the vehicle.
Officer Davila #168 arrived on scene to assist.
I conducted a vehicle search and no contraband was found.
Ms Sherrod informed me she knew her license had been revoked but thought it had been fixed.
I arrested and cited Ms Sherrod for driving on a revoked license and secured her in my patrol vehicle after she had made arrangements to have her vehicle picked up from the traffic stop location. I provided her a warning regarding her not having obtained a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days change of residency (she informed me she has been living in Georgia for two years).
Ms Sherrod’s vehicle was released to [REDACTED] per Ms Sherrod.
Ms Sherrod was transported to the Liberty County Jail and released to their custody.
The arrest and transport of the subject followed department protocol consisting of the suspect being searched, handcuffs being applied, checked for proper fit and double locked. The suspect was placed in the backseat of my patrol vehicle and was seat belted in for transport. The patrol vehicle was searched prior to and after transport with no contraband found.
The subject was released to the custody of the Liberty County detention staff without incident.
