6/1/2026, While on patrol I, Sgt. Taylor, received a call from Sgt. Fallin who advised me to go to the Market parking lot on West Railroad St.. He stated there was a male subject drinking from a liquor bottle in a white chevrolet truck, displaying Ga. Tag: [REDACTED].
When I arrived at the Market parking lot the vehicle had already departed. I then proceeded to the Piggly Wiggly parking lot where I located the vehicle. I observed the male exit the store and enter the vehicle. The vehicle then exited the parking lot onto Butler St.. As I pulled out behind the vehicle and about to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle pulled into the liquor store parking lot. I continued to follow the vehicle as it pulled around the liquor store and pulled into a parking spot. I energized the blue lights on my patrol vehicle. I observed the driver through the rear window of the vehicle attempting to hide a clear bottle behind the seat of the truck.
I then approached the drivers side of the vehicle, the drivers side door window was already rolled completely down. I immediately smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. I then had the driver exit the vehicle as I read him Ga. Implied Consent requesting a sample of his breath. I also conducted the HGN on the individual and he was unable to smoothly track the stimulus and had noticeable nystagmus. I had Officer Beasley transport the driver, identified as Gregory Atkinson to the Police Department to run a test on the Intox. 9000. I retrieved the bottle from behind the seat of the truck which was a plastic bottle of TAAKA vodka with the top not on it.
On arrival at the Police Department I was told by Officer Beasley that Mr. Atkinson had vaped during the transport to the Police Department. Mr. Atkinson was again observed for a 20 minute period and not allowed to vap or put anything in his mouth during this period. After waiting the required 20 minutes I administered a breath test using the Intox. 9000 on Mr. Atkinson. The results of the test showed Mr. Atkinson had a ВАС. of .201. Mr. Atkinson was issued 2 citations. Citation 1 for driving while under the influence of alcohol, Citation 2 for Open container of alcohol in the motor vehicle.
