On Wednesday, October 4, 2023 I, Deputy W. Jackson was notified by [WITNESS #1] (Monroe County Animal Control) in reference to a neglected and abandoned dog located at [100 BLOCK] Timber Drive. [WITNESS #1] informed me Animal Control received a call on September 27, 2023 from a concerned neighbor advising of a dog at the above listed address not having food, water and inadequate shelter.
[WITNESS #1] advised she attempted to contact the homeowners, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] via warning notice but no one responded back to them. [WITNESS #1] advised on September 29, 2023 after not hearing back from the homeowners, she returned to this residence in an effort after not hearing back from the homeowners and remove the dog to a lack of water, food and a wound on its back which required veterinarian treatment.
On October 4, 2023, I attempted to make contact with the homeowners but was unsuccessful. I left a business card on the front door advising someone to contact me in reference to this incident. On October 9, 2023 I, was contacted by [REDACTED] who informed me the dog belonged to her son and they were going to surrender it prior to this incident. On this same date, [WITNESS #1] (MCAC) informed me the dog has passed away due its condition and Canine Parvovirus. [WITNESS #1] also advised the MCAC had to shut down and quarantined in order to keep the Parvovirus from spreading throughout the facility.
On Sunday, October 15, 2023 I made contact with Anterius Davon Evans and asked about this incident. Evans informed me the dog was a stray and took it in to help nourish it back to health. Evans advised was in possession of the dog for about two months and even borrowed a dog house to shelter the dog. Evans expressed sincere remorse after hearing of the dog dying. Based on the death and condition of the dog when MCAC impounded it, Evans was charged with Cruelty to Animals (Misdemeanor).
Listed below is a timeline of veterinary care provided to the dog prior to its passing away:
October 4, 2023 DAPP=L4 vaccination
October 5, 2023 Rabies vaccination
October 6, 2023 minimal blood discovered in stool
October 7, 2023 severe nausea/vomiting/bloody diarrhea medication given by Veterinarian
October 8, 2023 dog died and tested positive Canine Parvo
