On Monday, June 29th, 2026 at approximately 2126 hours, I (Deputy Bakkar) was dispatched in reference to a Hit and Run at Rumble Rd at the end of the Ga 401 MM 181 exit ramp.

I arrived on scene and met with the complainant identified as [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated she was heading west bound on Rumble Rd over the bridge when a dark colored or black passenger car hit her. [VICTIM #1] stated the dark colored passenger car came up the SB exit ramp and struck the side of her vehicle making her lose control of her vehicle. [VICTIM #1] stated the passenger vehicle then drove off back onto Ga 401 SB. [VICTIM #1] stated the vehicle probably did not get far due to how bad the damage to the front end was and might have stopped at the rest area. I observed substantial functional damage to the passenger side of [VICTIM #1]’s Chevy SUV.

[VICTIM #1]’s daughter and husband arrived on scene. As I was cleaning debris out of the road [VICTIM #1]’s husband picked up a headlight which I observed and photographed with a serial number and make which was Hyundai. Once I got all of [VICTIM #1]’s info I headed southbound to check the Rest Area near MM 178. As I drove through the Rest Area I observed a dark colored Hyundai matching the description with substantial front end damage. The vehicle was backed in behind another vehicle. There was a white male standing outside of the vehicle sweating. When the male saw me he got wide eyed and began quickly typing on his phone. I exited my vehicle and as I approached the subject I could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his direction. The male then stumbled into the vehicle he was parked next to.

I placed the male identified as Christopher Crabtree in handcuffs behind the back, double locked, and checked for fit. Crabtree was trying to call his girlfriend later identified as [WITNESS #1] to pick him up. As Crabtree was talking I could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. I observed Crabtree’s eyes which were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. Crabtree had a difficult time maintaining balance and repeatedly laid against my vehicle.

I searched Crabtree incident to arrest. I read Crabtree his Miranda Warning. I stated I know you are intoxicated to which Crabtree stated yes, but I am not answering any questions. I then read Crabtree the Georgia Implied Consent notice for suspects 21 or over (Green Card) for breath, to which he shouted no. I then placed Crabtree in the back passenger seat of my patrol car. Crabtree stated he just got out of prison where he served 15 years. [WITNESS #1] arrived on scene asking about the situation and if she could get her tools from the vehicle. I stated she could once I was done doing my inventory search of the vehicle and only if Crabtree gave her permission.

I observed an empty “Buzzball” alcoholic beverage in the passenger floorboard as well as a plastic container containing less than 1g of suspected marijuana and a package of rolling papers. [WITNESS #1] told me Crabtree was drinking a bottle of vodka at her house before leaving. [WITNESS #1] then stated all she saw was him open the bottle because she was going to sleep. Crabtree began hitting and kicking in the back of my patrol car yelling for [WITNESS #1] to stop talking.

I allowed [WITNESS #1] to talk to Crabtree while I was waiting for Mid Ga towing to arrive. Crabtree told [WITNESS #1] I drive drunker than this and I am usually fine. Crabtree then told [WITNESS #1] sorry, the car is done baby. This confirms the vehicle was just wrecked. Mid Ga towed the vehicle. During transport Crabtree repeatedly stated “I fu*ked up” and asked if he had hurt anyone. Crabtree stated he smokes weed for his PTSD and is a severe alcoholic. I put the light from the accident cite in the vehicle. Crabtree was transported to the Monroe Co Jail where he was transferred into their custody. I checked my patrol vehicle before and after transport.

The marijuana was properly logged and placed in an evidence locker.

Crabtree was cited for Hit and Run, DUI-Refusal, Open Container, and was issued a warrant for Possession of Marijuana Less than 1oz.
