On Friday, September 4, 2026, at approximately 2306 hours, I, Sergeant J. Justice, and Deputy Grant were dispatched to [200 BLOCK] Castleberry Road, in reference to a domestic dispute. Prior to arrival, Monroe County Dispatch advised the female complainant was advising the male party to leave so he would not go to jail.
Upon arrival, deputies approached the dark residence and knocked on the front door. Deputy Grant saw a white female running from the right side of the residence to the far left side, but she would not answer the door. I then knocked on the front door and announced ourselves as the Monroe County Sheriffs Office. The white female came to the front door wearing an all white bath robe. Monroe County Sheriffs Deputies made contact with the complainant, Crystal Gail Berry.
Deputy Grant and I entered the residence and Crystal led us to the far back right bedroom where the male subject was laying in the bed. Crystal opened the bedroom door and made the comment “Coop get up, they are here”. I advised the male subject to get out of the bed and come into the next room, which was the living room. The male subject exited the bed and we made contact with Steven Edward Cooper.
Steven followed Deputy Grant into the living room, while I stayed in the bedroom with Crystal. I inquired about what took place on the above date. Crystal stated that both she and Steven had consumed alcohol. I looked over to the side table by the bed and asked Crystal if that is what she had been drinking. She stated “yea, I have had 4 of those.” (close to 16 ounce beer cans). I noticed a mark on the right side of Crystal’s forehead. I then asked how did she recieve the marks on her. Crystal told me the marks on her nose, arm, and hand came from a oppossum approximately one week ago. The mark on her forehead came from Steven pushing her to the ground. Crystal continously begged me not to take Steven to jail. I asked what the relationship is between the parties. Crystal stated they are together but not married. The subjects have been living together at [200 BLOCK] Castleberry Road for close to one year. I then walked out of that bedroom, and into the other bedroom where Deputy Grant and Steven were located.
I noticed several scratch marks on Steven’s face and neck. I asked what occurred. Steven stated that he and Crystal had been arguing and she wanted him to leave. Steven advised her he would leave tomorrow, on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Crystal then placed her hands in Steven’s face and caused the scratch marks on Steven’s neck and left cheek. I asked how did Crystal recieve the mark on her forehead, to which he denied ever physically touching her.
At this point, the primary agressor could not be identified. However, both Steven and Crystal were both very intoxicated and appeared that both parties were involved in mutual combat between each other. I advised Deputy Grant to place Steven in handcuffs. I then asked Crystal if she had any clothing underneath her bath robe. She replied no. I advised her to go put clothes on.
Crystal then began to get “somewhat louder” and calling Steven a liar and a b*tch. Crystal walked into her bedroom and put on panties and a t-shirt. She then walked out of her bedroom and asked if she could go into the other bedroom to get pants. At this time, Crystal is still talking loud and using the term “b*tch” alot. Again, I advised her to go into the bedroom and get dressed. Crystal was not following my direct orders. Therefore, I grabbed the left wrist of Crystal and told her to turn around. Crystal then tensed up and attempted to turn around to face me. I spun Crystal around and was able to get both hands in handcuffs. I checked for comfortable fit and double locked both cuffs.
I placed Crystal in the rear of my patrol vehicle and transported her to the Monroe County Sheriffs Office jail facility.
I will issue Monroe County Magistrate Court citations to both Steven and Crystal for Disorderly Conduct.
