On Wednesday May 06, 2026 at approximately 1912 Hours dispatch gave out a BOLO for a Black Chevrolet Impala.
Dispatched advised the caller stated that the vehicle was swerving all over the roadway and almost striking multiple vehicles, beginning at the GA 401 South Bound Mile Marker 201.
At approximately 1915 hours, I, Deputy Yeager observed the Black Chevrolet Impala traveling South Bound on GA 401 at the Mile Marker 189. The vehicle was traveling In the far left lane making multiple lane breaks and crossed over Into the left hand emergency lane almost making contact with the wall. At this time I advised dispatch I will be conducting a traffic stop as I merged Into the far left lane activating my emergency lights In which the vehicle came to a complete stop on the left hand emergency lane Just past the GA 401 South Bound 188 exit ramp.
I approached the driver side window making contact with the driver (Darla Lucas). I asked Darla for her drivers license and advised her the reason for my traffic stop. I Immediately noticed she had drowsy eyes that were slightly watery and had very slowed speech while speaking with me.
I Instructed Darla out of the vehicle, which she did, and Instructed her to the rear of her vehicle. I asked Darla If she consumed any alcoholic beverages In which she stated no. I then asked If she consumed any Illegal drugs and she also stated no. I Then asked Darla If she would perform Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) which she stated yes.
The first SFST conducted was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test. After ensuring Darla did not have any Issues with her eyes, I had her stand In the start position. I explained the test to her and asked If she understood In which she stated yes. During this evaluation I did not notice Nystagmus, although she did lose focus of my stimulus multiple times and had to be Instructed to focus on my stimulus.
The second SFST conducted was the walk and turn test. I explained the test to her and asked If she understood In which she stated yes. I then Instructed her to stand In the start position until I told her to begin. During this evaluation I did not see any Infractions.
The third SFST conducted was the One Leg Stand. I had Darla stand In the start position while I explained and demonstrated this test to her. I asked If she understood and she stated yes. During this evaluation I did not see any Infractions.
I asked Darla If she would give a breath sample for my alco sensor, Which she stated yes. The results Indicated a negative reading for Alcohol.
At this time I asked Darla if she had taken anything and she stated no. I asked her for consent to search the vehicle which she stated yes to a consent search. After I finished searching the vehicle I asked Darla If she would consent to another Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test In which she stated yes.
During the evaluation she displayed a lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and onset nystagmus prior to 45 degrees In both eyes.
At this time I placed Darla In handcuffs with her hands behind her back which were double locked and checked for fit. I read her the Georgia Implied Consent Notice For Suspects Age 21 Or Over (Green card) requesting blood. Darla consented to the state test.
The vehicle was Inventoried and turned over to Forsyth Towing.
I transported Darla to the Monroe County Emergency Room for a blood draw. Once finished I then transported her to the Monroe County Jail where she was booked In and turned over to the Jail staff.
Darla was charged with the following:
- DUI- Combo any combination of A1/A2/A3
- Failure to maintain lane
I asked my dispatch to run a criminal and driver history which will uploaded to the linked files of the report.
