On Friday, September 25, 2026, at approximately 0706 hours, I, Deputy Sanders, responded to a Be on the lookout for a gray semi failing to maintain lane, speeding, and striking the guard rail on 475 near mile marker 13 northbound.

Upon arrival, I located the truck, GA 401 NB MM 185, and followed it for a few miles to observe it. While doing so, the truck failed to maintain its lane several times, so I conducted a traffic stop at mile marker 189 NB. The truck pulled to the right shoulder and I made contact with the driver at the window, where I quickly smelled the odor of recently burning marijuana and driver having red eyes.

I asked the driver to step out of the truck. Once in front of the semi, Deputy Linville and I spoke with the suspect, identified as Jaxson Chrisp. I advised the driver that I stopped him for failing to maintain his lane on several occasions and because a caller stated he nearly hit the guardrail. When I walked around the truck, it appeared to have no damage from hitting anything; however, he was still failing to maintain his lane.

I advised the driver I smelled the odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle and him, and he stated, “ok” I went to search the suspect, and he kept pulling away from me on 2 seperate occations. I then placed the suspect in handcuffs due to him not cooperating with my commands and appearing to get into a slight fighting stance. In the suspect’s pocket, I found both a marijuana cigarette and a burnt marijuana cigarette, which I suspect he was smoking while driving down the road. Linville read the Miranda waiver, and the suspect agreed to talk.

I attempted to administer the Standardized Field Sobriety Test on the suspect; however, due to his medical condition, we were unable to do so, as the suspect was unable to get into position for either the walk-and-turn or 1-leg stand. I searched the truck and did not locate any more marijuana. The suspect stated the last time he smoked was 9/24/26 at approximately 1800 hours. However, due to the freshly smoky, burning smell in the cab of the truck, I believed the suspect was driving while smoking.

I placed the suspect in handcuffs, double-locked behind his back, and checked for proper fit. Deputy Linville walked him back to my patrol car and placed him in it. I read the green implide consent card for blood over 21 and suspect stated he would do a blood test. I transported him to the hospital for a blood draw while Linville waited on the tow truck. After the blood draw, I transported him to Monroe County Jail, where I turned him over to jail staff.
