On Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, at approximately 0443 hrs, I, Deputy Powell, was dispatched to [REDACTED], in reference to a physical domestic.

While enroute, dispatched advised the male had strangulated the female complainant and is now locked inside the room with their 7 month old baby.

Upon arrival I made contact with the complainant on the second story, outside room [REDACTED]. The female, later identified as [VICTIM #1], stated her husband, Lawrence Latson, is inside the room with their 7 month old baby ([REDACTED BY AGENCY]) and will not let her back in. [VICTIM #1]’s left eye appeared to red and swollen. I asked [VICTIM #1] if the male subject caused that mark underneath her eye and she stated yes. I then instructed [VICTIM #1] to walk down the stairs and stand near my patrol vehicle with the other responding deputies.

Myself and Corporal Brooks then approached room [REDACTED]. I then knocked on the door and announced our presence. After numerous times Lawrence then opened the door. Myself and Corporal Brooks placed Lawrence and hand cuffs behind the back which were double locked and checked for fit. I then escorted Lawrence down the stairs to my patrol vehicle while Sergeant Justice and [VICTIM #1] went up to the room to check on [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Lawence was then placed in the back seat of my patrol vehicle which was searched prior to and after transport. Lawrence was then read his Miranda Rights. When asked what happened, Lawrence stated he has no idea, that he has been asleep and has to get up early for work soon.

I then returned to room [REDACTED] where [VICTIM #1] and [REDACTED] were located along with other responding Deputies. When asked what happened, [VICTIM #1] stated around 0200 hrs, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and her were laying in the bed trying to go to sleep. Lawrence came into the bedroom and uncovered [VICTIM #1] from the covers and took her phone from her. [VICTIM #1] stated she was able to get her phone back from Lawrence and they began to argue. [VICTIM #1] stated she then attempted to leave room [REDACTED] and that is when Lawrence grabbed her and forcefully moved her back into the bed room. Once back into the bedroom, [VICTIM #1] stated they began to argue once more and Lawrence placed his hand over her mouth and nose. [VICTIM #1] stated that is where the mark around her left eye originated from. While Lawrence’s hand was over [VICTIM #1]’s mouth, she stated she was able to break free by biting the inside of his hand, getting him to let go of her. [VICTIM #1] stated she was then able to exit the room with her phone. While outside the room, she stated she attempted to return but forgot her keys to get inside. She stated after about 2 hours of trying to get inside, she feared for the well being [REDACTED BY AGENCY] so she called 911. [VICTIM #1] stated [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was laying on the bed while this incident occurred.

We then asked [VICTIM #1] once more if she needed medical attention, to which she denied. I gave [VICTIM #1] the case number attached with the number to the Monroe County Care Cottage as well and informed her of their services.

Lawrence was then transported to the Monroe County Jail where he was turned over to the Jail Staff. While at the jail I examined Lawrence’s hands for bite marks with nothing being found.

Lawrence was charged with Battery Family Violence Act, False Imprisonment, and Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree.
