On Sunday May 31, 2026 at approximately 1932 hours, I, Deputy Yeager was dispatched to the area of GA 401 North Bound Mile Marker 193 In reference to a Hit And Run.

Upon arrival I made contact with [VICTIM #1] who stated she was traveling In her white Toyota Rav4 North Bound In the middle lane about 3/4 Miles before the 193 exit ramp when she observed In her rear view mirror a dark gray colored passenger car coming up behind her at a high rate of speed. She stated she was making an attempt to merge Into the far right lane when the other vehicle rear ended her vehicle forcing her to maneuver left towards the emergency lane.

[VICTIM #1] stated the other vehicle continued without stopping and looked like it was a dark gray hyundai or toyota make.

[VICTIM #1] called at approximately 19:29:54 hours and when I checked flock there was a identical match to what [VICTIM #1] described that hit on flock at approximately 19:28:24 Hours On Johnstonville Rd In front of the Marathon gas station.

At approximately 19:57 Hours I observed the vehicle sitting at the Marathon on Johnstonvile Rd. When I made contact with the Driver of the dark gray Hyundai who was driven by (Makiyyah Berry) she stated she was not Involved In a motor vehicle accident and has been sitting at this location for over an hour.

I advised Makiyyah her vehicle was seen on our flock cameras at approximately 19:28:54 hours pulling Into the gas station. I then observed the front of her vehicle where there was visible damage to the front end, both headlight housing assembly’s and the hood/facia was slightly lifted as well as white paint transfer on driver side far front bumper and driver side rear door where It meets the fender.

Makiyyah was asked to exit the vehicle placing her newborn son Into the passenger side rear of her vehicle where she was then advised she was under arrest for Hit And Run and also driving on a suspended license. I then placed her In handcuffs with her hands behind her back checking for fit and double lock and placed Into the passenger side rear of my patrol vehicle.

I let Makiyyah call her mother to pick up her vehicle and her newborn son. At approximately 2156 hours the vehicle and her son was turned over to the parents.

I then transported Makiyyah to the Monroe County Jail where she was booked In and turned over to the jail staff.

Makiyyah was charged with the following citations:

  • Hit and Run
  • Driving while License suspended
  • Following too closely
  • Expired registration

I asked my dispatch to run a Criminal and Driver history which will be uploaded to the linked files of the report.

Photos of both vehicles will be uploaded to the linked files of the report.

The rear seat of my patrol vehicle was checked for contraband before and after Makiyyah was turned over to the Jail.
