On Thursday, October 8th, 2026 at approximately 10:29 p.m. Monroe County Dispatch advised of a welfare check on two individuals located on Juliette Road. Dispatch advised that the complainant stated she was an EMT and believed that the two white males located in the vehicle were overdosing on drugs. The complainant stated the vehicle was a beige Chevy Equinox and that it was located between Old Juliette Road and Ponder Trammell Road. Deputy Grant and I, Corporal Sammons responded.

Upon arriving to the area, I located a silver Chevy Equinox parked on the North shoulder with it’s hazard lights activated in approximately the 3700 block of Juliette Road. The vehicle displayed Georgia Tag [REDACTED]. I observed two white males on the ground next to the passenger side of the vehicle. One was laying on his back and one was sat on his bottom. I exited my patrol car and approached the two males. I asked the two males what was going on tonight and the individual laying on his back who would later be identified as Mason Hough stated that they lost their keys. The other individual, later identified as [REDACTED] stated that they stopped to call their mom, they exited the vehicle because he had to take a piss and Mason dropped the keys while talking to their mom. Both males appeared to be under the influence of some sort of drug. Both males were slurring their speech, sluggish to respond and had difficulty forming answers.

While speaking with the males, an individual who self identified as their older brother arrived and would later be identified as [REDACTED]. I briefly spoke with him and asked him if he could try getting his brothers to tell them what they took. I asked him if they had ever taken any drugs before and he stated he believed they had smoked weed before but that was all he knew of.

I began to search the vehicle for any sign of drugs while giving [REDACTED] a chance to speak with his brothers in Deputy Grant’s presence. Deputy Grant also searched the males for any drugs. I returned to the passenger side of the vehicle and again attempted to speak with Mason who would not respond to me. Mason was still laying on the side of the road in the tall grass as if he was on a beach somewhere.

Once Monroe County EMS arrived on scene, I briefed them of the situation and allowed them to begin evaluating the males. While they were speaking to Mason, I noticed [REDACTED] attempt to stand up and have trouble. I helped him to his feet and helped him walk over to my patrol car. Once I let go of [REDACTED], he began to fall backwards and I had to grab him to keep him from falling. I informed [REDACTED] that he was not in trouble but I needed to know what he took. He continued to inform me he did not know what happened. Once it became apparent that [REDACTED] would not inform me what they had taken, I gave up and returned to [REDACTED] who was on the phone with their mother. The mother was identified as [REDACTED]. I informed [REDACTED] of the situation and she requested to talk to her son.

Monroe County EMS attempted to get Mason and [REDACTED] to speak to them as well but were unsuccessful. Mason informed them that they were pushing the car. EMS agreed that it would be impossible to push a car without a key and it could also be seen in the grass a short distance behind the car where it left the roadway. Monroe County EMS advised that Mason was extremely uncooperative but was medically cleared by having stable healthy vital signs. [REDACTED] was placed in the ambulance and taken to Monroe County ER. I observed Mason to have pin point pupils while still slurring his speech.

Once Mason was cleared by EMS, I transitioned into a DUI investigation and attempted to speak with Mason. I walked back to Mason’s side and attempted to begin asking him questions. Mason turned his back to me and began walking away. Deputy Grant grabbed Mason by his shoulder in an attempt to keep him from walking away. Mason turned around and forcefully grabbed Deputy Grant’s arm. Mason was instructed to let go and did not comply. His grip was broken and he began to pull away while trying to get back in the car. Deputy Grant and I assisted Mason to the ground and attempted to place him in handcuffs. Mason continued to attempt to pull away but was successfully placed into handcuffs to the rear which were double locked and checked for proper fit. Mason was then escorted to my marked patrol car where he was searched incident to arrest. Mason then would not get into my backseat and had to again be assisted into the car. My car was checked for contraband before and after transport yielding no results.

I read Mason Georgia’s Implied Consent Notice for Suspects under 21 for blood and he refused.

The vehicle was removed by Tracy’s wrecker. [REDACTED] was transported to the Monroe County hospital where he was turned over to [REDACTED]. Mason was transported to the Monroe County Jail where he was charged with DUI refusal, Driving while license suspended or revoked and misdemeanor obstruction. A use of force report was completed and attached.
