On Saturday, March 21, at approximately 0118 hours, I Deputy Linville along with Sergeant Bryson were dispatched to the 985 SR-42 north in reference to a disturbance. Before arrival dispatch advised that the caller stated a male brushed up on his daughter at the convenience store.

At approximately 0120 hours, we arrived on scene and made contact with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] advised that his daughter, [VICTIM #1], was in the process of checking out at the store when an unknown Black male indetifying as Tyron Duffey made unwanted physical contact by pressing his groin area against her buttocks. [WITNESS #1] stated that [VICTIM #1] then turned and told the male she was a minor and walked out of the store crying.

I spoke with [VICTIM #1] and she stated that she was checking out in the store and felt something come up behind her and brush up on her buttocks. When she turned around she seen Mr. Duffey behind her and he started asking her for her cell phone number. [VICTIM #1] advised Mr. Duffey she wasn’t of age and he staed in his exact words, “Yes you are or you wouldn’t be here right now”. Ater the interaction [VICTIM #1] said she came outside into the parking lot to get back in her vehicle while her parents contacted Law Enforcement. [VICTIM #1] advised that Duffey remained in the parking lot and provided a description of his physical appearance.

Deputy Clark arrived and spoke with Tyron Duffey near the gas pumps to gather information. Sergeant Bryson and I then made contact with Duffey in reference to the incident. Upon approaching Duffey, I immediately detected a strong odor consistent with an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person. I also noticed Duffey had blood shot eyes and exhibited slurred speech.

Duffey stated that he walked up behind [VICTIM #1], who then turned around and stated that she had children. Duffey advised that he replied, ‘I have children as well,’ and ‘It wasn’t like that,’ indicating no inappropriate intent. According to Duffey, [VICTIM #1] first stated she had children, and then advised that she said she was a minor. I advised Duffey that his version of events was inconsistent, given his claim that [VICTIM #1] turned around and, without further interaction, stated she was a minor. Sergeant Byrson advised Duffey that we would watch the video footage on the cameras in the store since his statements were inconsistent.

Surveillance footage revealed Duffey walking behind [VICTIM #1] and pressing his groin area into her buttocks. The manager also advised he observed an interaction between Duffey and [VICTIM #1]. Deputy Clark’s body-worn camera recorded the incident.

Based on the investigation, Duffey was placed under arrest for Sexual Battery and Public Drunkenness. Duffey was handcuffed with his hands behind his back with the handcuffs double locked. Duffey was searched prior to transport, secured in the rear of Sergeant Bryson’s patrol vehicle, and transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he was turned over to intake personnel.

The store manager has not yet provided the video footage, which is pending collection for evidence. Duffey’s criminal history record has been uploaded to and is available in the linked files associated with this report.
