On 07/12/2023 at 0100 hrs, I conducted a traffic stop on a blue in color Infiniti G37 bearing the tag [REDACTED] out of Georgia. I observed the vehicle driven by the registered owner, Ms. Aelisha Thompson, run the stop sign on Ward Rd at its intersection with Eatonton Rd. I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Eatonton Rd and Title Max.
As I walked up to the car, I observed Ms. Thompson digging between her seat and center console. MS. Thompson stated that she dropped her license and asked why I stopped her. I explained to Ms. Thompson that I observed her run the stop sign at Ward Rd and Eatonton Rd. Ms. Thompson apologized and began to strike up additional conversations with me. Ms. Thompson appeared to be very talkative during the stop. While talking to Ms. Thompson, I noticed the odor of alcohol coming from her breath. Ms. Thompson admitted to drinking two Michelob Ultra beers earlier in the night but claimed that was hours before driving.
I asked Ms. Thompson if she minded doing a series of tests administered by another officer to determine if she was fit to drive. Ms. Thompson said yes. Deputy Blake Rowe with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist as well as Cpl. Andy Koth. Deputy Rowe conducted standardized field sobriety on Ms. Thompson. While doing so, I could still note the odor of alcohol coming from her. Deputy Rowe advised that there was enough indication that Ms. Thompson was impaired. Deputy Rowe also administered a breathalyzer test in which Ms. Thompson blew a 0.11. I read Ms. Thompson the Georgia Implied Consent notice. Ms. Thompson consented to the testing of her blood for the presence of alcohol.
Upon searching Ms. Thompson’s car incident to her arrest, an open container of alcohol was found. It was determined that the open container was old. Deputy Rowe moved Ms. Thompson’s car to the Walmart parking lot with the help of Cpl. Koth. I transported Ms. Thompson to Morgan Medical Center to have her blood drawn. After drawing Ms. Thompson’s blood, I transported her to the Morgan County Detention Center.
I advised Ms. Thompson that she would receive two citations and two warnings. Ms. Thompson was charged with DUI- 1st Offense (OCGA 40-6-391) and Failure to Stop at a Stop/Yield Sign (OCGA 40-6-72b). I gave Ms. Thompson a warning on the open container and a blown headlight.
