On July 18, 2025, SFC Hill, Deputy Casey, SFC Watson, K9 Unit Garren, Deputy Smith, and I, Deputy Brown was dispatched to [1100 BLOCK] Highway 225 South lot [REDACTED] in reference to a fight in progress. When law enforcement arrived on scene there was no fight at the time, but two males was in a verbal altercation due to Joseph Verner laying his hands on [VICTIM #1]. When I was speaking to the crowd that had gathered at the scene, I found out that at the time of the incident only four people were at the residence, [VICTIM #1], Joseph Verner, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Joseph Verner was outside speaking with other deputies on the scene and the other three subjects were inside the residence. I went inside the residence to speak with [VICTIM #1], [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY]

Inside the residence I spoke to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] since she witnessed the incident. She advised that she wanted to DoorDash some food to the residence and went to speak to her mother, [VICTIM #1] about it. She said that her mother and Joseph were in the back bedroom. She said when she opened the door to the bedroom, she seen Joseph smack and grab ahold of her mother’s face and shove it to the side. She said it sounded like a slap but once his hand hit her face that he grabbed her face and then shoved it. She said she screamed at him to not touch her mother.

[REDACTED BY AGENCY] said that she her the screaming and commotion in the back bedroom and went to see what was happening. When she found out what had happened, she also told Joseph that he needed to leave the residence. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said that Joseph got in her face and called her a little bi*ch and told her that he didn’t have to go anywhere. After this, either [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and/or [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had called a family member and advised them what was going on at the residence.

I spoke to [VICTIM #1], and she advised that she was on the phone with [REDACTED] who is incarcerated that the Murray County Detention Center. She advised that Joseph got mad because of this and grabbed her phone and started throwing it in the bedroom. She said she started arguing with him and then he grabbed her by the face and shoved her face. I asked [VICTIM #1] if she and Joseph had been drinking tonight and she pointed at a bottle of Jim Bean that was almost empty and advised they had been drinking that.

Joseph Verner was arrested and transported to the Murray County Detention Center for the offenses of Simply Battery and Disorderly Conduct. [VICTIM #1] was advised of the case number for the report and victim services. I will also be placing GACHILD a referral call due to two juveniles being in the residence and witnessing an act of family violence.
