Warning: The following story contains information regarding alleged physical violence/neglect against children.
MUSCOGEE COUNTY, Ga. – Columbus Police officers arrested a mother on May 31, 2024, after physicians diagnosed her one-year-old son with multiple brain bleeds. The Georgia Department of Human Services – Division of Family and Children Services alerted law enforcement of the situation on May 3, 2024, after the child was brought to the hospital.
From Piedmont Columbus Regional, he was transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he received a diagnosis of two brain bleeds. Police did not disclose what may have caused the injuries; however, his mother, Emily Danielle Henry, is accused of ignoring his symptoms for days.
Investigators discovered that the child allegedly suffered seizures, vomiting, and lethargy for multiple days before medical help was sought.
Officials said, “The delay in seeking medical attention, which was initiated by third parties rather than the primary caretaker, was deemed neglectful.”
Henry was charged with second-degree child cruelty (family violence) and transported to the Muscogee County Jail, where she will await her upcoming court appearance.
This case is pending.
