On 03/19/2026 at approximately 1132 hours, I, Deputy Nicholas Passig, did respond to Wendy Bagwell Parkway and Isley Stamper Rd in reference to assisting another agency.

Upon arriving on the scene, I met with David Reid, who is currently employed with the Cobb County Police Department, in full uniform, driving a unmarked patrol vehicle, and just finishing SWAT training. David stated he was driving in the left lane on Bill Carruth Highway when the vehicle cut him off, and begins to slow down. David stated he pulled into the left-turn lane and, as the vehicle pulled up, the window started to roll down. He began to roll his window down and said, “What’s the deal?” David stated that it was then he noticed the driver had what appeared to be a Glock 19X and was holding it near his face, and that he could see the barrel.

David stated he exited his vehicle, went around his vehicle, and began to draw his firearm. David stated that he pointed to his partner to stop the vehicle. His partner began following the vehicle, and they pulled it over on Wendy Bagwell Pkwy at Isley Stamper Rd. They were able to detain the driver (later identified as Brandon Araiza).

After speaking with David, I read Miranda rights to Brandon Araiza, and he agreed to talk with me. I asked Brandon what happened, and he stated he was on his way to cash his checks at the bank. While on Bill Carruth Parkway, he got into the wrong lane of travel, and while changing lanes back to his lane, he cut off the vehicle behind him. Brandon then stated that the vehicle pulled up next to him, and the window rolled down, and he “wasn’t thinking”. Brandon stated that he flashed the firearm.

I asked Brandon if he knew that it was a cop, and he stated he did not know until they pulled him over. Brandon stated that the firearm was not loaded and that he didn’t fully show it. Brandon also stated later that the slide of the gun was pointed at the officer but not fully pointed at him.

A Glock19X SN: CBFV871 was recovered by assisting officers on scene and was found with a full magazine. I then placed Brandon under arrest for Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon and aggressive driving. I transported Brandon to the Paulding County Detention Center to be booked in. I entered the Glock19X into evidence and later took out warrants for Brandon. No further police action was taken. I returned to service.
