On August 6, 2026, at approximately 1919 hours, I responded to a domestic dispute at [REDACTED]. Upon arrival, I met with the complainant, [WITNESS #1], who was attempting to make contact with Versay Kennell, who remained inside the residence. [WITNESS #1] instructed Versay to step outside and comply with law enforcement commands. Versay exited the residence, and due to the nature of the call, I directed him to turn around, get on his knees, and place his hands behind his back.

I approached and secured him in handcuffs, then escorted him to my patrol vehicle. I advised him he was detained pending further investigation. I searched him for weapons or contraband, confirmed proper handcuff fitment, placed him in the rear of my patrol vehicle, and secured the door.

I then spoke with [WITNESS #1], who provided the following statement. She explained that her sons, [VICTIM #1] (15) and Versay Kennell (18), were involved in a physical altercation that began as an argument over food. She stated that Versay continued to instigate [VICTIM #1] until [VICTIM #1] walked outside, with Versay following. [WITNESS #1] also stepped outside and observed [VICTIM #1] wrap his arms around Versay while yelling, “I got him, I got him.”

She stated that Versay then bit [VICTIM #1] on his right arm. [VICTIM #1] released Versay and ran into the bathroom inside the residence. [WITNESS #1] stated that Versay grabbed a knife and attempted to unlock the bathroom door with it. She took the knife from Versay, retrieved [VICTIM #1], and left the residence to pick up another one of her sons. When asked where the knife was placed, she stated she tossed it somewhere on East Paulding Drive.

I then spoke briefly with Versay, who stated he did not understand why he was going to jail because “nobody was harmed.”

I next spoke with [VICTIM #1], who stated that Versay continued making “smart remarks” about the previous night’s dinner, leading to an argument. While outside, [VICTIM #1] stated that Versay attempted to strike him but missed. [VICTIM #1] then wrapped his arms around Versay to restrain him. [VICTIM #1] stated that when Versay could not break free, he bit [VICTIM #1] on his right arm, causing a small laceration and pain, which forced [VICTIM #1] to release him. [VICTIM #1] ran into the bathroom and heard Versay say, “I’m gonna kill you,” or “I’m gonna mess you up.” [VICTIM #1] remained inside the bathroom until [WITNESS #1] retrieved him.

I spoke again with [WITNESS #1] and informed her that Versay was being taken to jail due to the incident involving family violence. I provided her with a case card. I provided [VICTIM #1] with a Victim’s Bill of Rights card and advised them to contact us with any questions.

I then advised Versay that he was under arrest for Battery (Family Violence). He was transported to the Paulding County Jail without incident. Warrants were sought for Battery (FV), Terroristic Threats and Acts, and Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree. All injuries were documented on my issued body-worn camera.

After gathering all necessary information, I returned to service.
