On 6-24-2026 I, Officer Ragsdale, attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black in color Hyundai Elantra on Ga 401 N near mile marker 149 after observing the vehicle failing to maintain its lane and observing the vehicle being at an extremely unsafe distance to the vehicle in front of him. This lead to the arrest of Robert Bryant.
After observing these traffic violations and being concerned that with these violations the driver could have been impaired or having a medical emergency I activated my emergency lights to preform a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle immediately cut to the far right lane and rapidly accelerated in an attempt to flee the traffic stop. The vehicle began driving in a manner that was extremely dangerous to the motoring public jeopardizing everyones safety with the blatant disregard for anyone.
As my lights and sirens were activated the vehicles speed reached an excess of 130 MPH. The vehicle began swerving in and out of traffic, passing people on both left and right shoulders, sudden and erratic lane changes. As we continued North on I75 I advised dispatch to let Bibb County and GSP know of our current situation. We continued North on I75 past 475 with speeds still exceeding 100 MPH, the vehicle still endangering the lives and the innocent motoring public with the reckless disregard of safety for him and the others. Traffic was moderate at the time, and the vehicle pulled ahead approx 200-300 yards.
The vehicle exited I75 at the Eisenhower exit, as he did this he was going at a speed to which he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, struck 3 signs, hit an embankment, causing all airbags to deploy and they vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest in the middle of the intersection. I observed a black male with black jeans and a white tee shirt jumping over a fence and running into tn apartment complex. At this time Bibb County SO started to arrive and the area was saturated with all types of Law Enforcement.
I gave Bibb County a description of the male and a direction he ran, and returned to my patrol vehicle where I then completed an inventory search of the vehicle, during the inventory I located three empty bags of marijuana in the front seat and a fake BB gun. I completed the inventory and Bibb County advised they had the guy in an apartment, and that he was in custody. Officer Carroll, Moneypenny, and myself made our way up to the Bibb County Units who had the individual in custody who was Identified as Robert Bryant.
The vehicle was towed to Underwoods, and Bryant was transported to the Byron Police Department. Once at the Police Department it was asked why he ran, Byrant responded with “I thought I had a warrant.” Bryant was then booked and processed on numerous traffic offense that came along with his fleeing and was then transported to the Peach County Sheriffs Office.
