AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at approximately 0823 hours, Deputy Hannah Gay was dispatched to 1464 Walton Way (McDonald’s) in reference to a stabbing.

Upon arrival, Deputy Gay made contact with the victim, [VICTIM #1], who stated he was stabbed by a black male, later identified as Christopher Johnson, wearing a green shirt and carrying a black backpack. [VICTIM #1] stated Johnson was cursing and hollering outside the above listed business and acting aggressive towards others, so he confronted him and told him to stop behaving the way he was. [VICTIM #1] stated he and Johnson began a verbal altercation and Johnson advised him that he would stab him if he came towards him. [VICTIM #1] stated he stepped towards Johnson during the confrontation and Johnson stabbed him in the chest with what he believed to be scissors. [VICTIM #1] stated Johnson fled the scene on foot toward Fifteenth Street. Central EMS Med Unit 14 arrived on scene and transported [VICTIM #1] to WellStar MCG for treatment.

Deputy Gay was approached by [WITNESS #1], who stated he witnessed the incident. [WITNESS #1] stated he was on the 1400 block of Walton Way at the bus stop when he was confronted by Johnson. [WITNESS #1] stated Johnson was cursing and was trying to start an argument with him. [WITNESS #1] stated Johnson walked away from him and walked to the McDonald’s parking lot. [WITNESS #1] stated he could hear Johnson arguing with [VICTIM #1] in the parking lot. [WITNESS #1] stated he witnessed Johnson approach [VICTIM #1] and stab him in the chest with an unknown object. [WITNESS #1] stated he witnessed Johnson run towards Fifteenth Street after the incident. [WITNESS #1] advised he is homeless and does not have a cellphone. [WITNESS #1] advised if law enforcement needed to locate him then he could be located at 113 Camilla Avenue Augusta GA 30907, which is where he regularly attends AA meeting.

Deputy Gay made contact with the complainant, [WITNESS #2], who is the manager of the above listed business. [WITNESS #2] stated she heard Johnson outside the business hollering, so she walked outside to see what was happening. [WITNESS #2] stated she heard Johnson state, “I’ll kill you” towards [VICTIM #1] while approaching him. [WITNESS #2] stated Johnson was also hollering at her and being aggressive. [WITNESS #2] stated Johnson was following after [VICTIM #1] and was constantly arguing with him. [WITNESS #2] stated [VICTIM #1] advised her that he had been stabbed by Johnson before she exited the business. [WITNESS #2] stated she began to contact law enforcement and Johnson advised he was not going to leave the scene. [WITNESS #2] stated once she started giving a description of Johnson, he fled the scene on foot towards Fifteenth Street. [WITNESS #2] stated she did not witness the stabbing and exited the business after the incident had occurred due to the loud argument/yelling. According to McDonald’s management, the incident did not occur within the security camera range.

Deputy Michael Rowe and Deputy Pride located Johnson on the 900 Block of Fifteenth Street near the bus stop. Deputy Rowe detained Johnson and Deputy Pride conducted a search of Johnson’s person. Deputy Pride located a pair of hemostatic forceps in the right side cargo pocket of Johnson’s pants. Johnson, his personal property, and the hemostatic forceps were turned over to Deputy Gay.

Johnson was read his Miranda Warning by Deputy Jericho Curtis. According to Deputy Curtis, Johnson denied stabbing [VICTIM #1]. Deputy Gay asked Johnson what happened and he stated he was defending himself but he did not stab anyone. Johnson stated he did not wish to speak any further.

Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to the Richmond County Detention Center, where he was committed on the charge of Aggravated Assault. While on scene at the Detention Center, Johnson mentioned that he was arrested for stabbing someone with a chopstick. Johnson did have several wooden chopsticks in his personal property/black backpack, but none of the chopsticks showed any evidence of being used during the incident.

Corporal Kevin Cheillada made contact with [VICTIM #1] at WellStar MCG. Pictures were taken of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries. An approximately 3cm puncture wound was observed in the middle if [VICTIM #1]’s chest slightly to the right of his sternum. Medical staff could not advised the depth of the puncture wound at the time of this report. The hemostatic forceps were placed onto property receipt number 545856 and turned over to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Custodian [REDACTED]. Sergeant Amos with CID was advised of the incident. A warrant was obtained and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Records Clerk [REDACTED] was advised.
