On April 4, 2026, I, Deputy Samuel Collins, was dispatched to be on the lookout for a red Dodge Dakota bearing Georgia tag [REDACTED], which was reported to be driving erratically.
While conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Tobacco Road and Peach Orchard Road, I observed the red Dodge Dakota described by dispatch traveling on Tobacco Road driving dangerously and recklessly passing my location. I observed the driver with the drivers side door open, hanging partially outside the vehicle while driving. I immediately cleared my traffic stop and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the Dodge Dakota with GA Tag #[REDACTED].
I attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Tobacco Road and Peach Orchard Road; however, the driver disregarded my emergency lights and siren and continued southbound on Peach Orchard Road at approximately 50 mph in light traffic while sounding the vehicle’s horn. The driver made no attempt to stop. I notified dispatch of my location and advised that I was actively in pursuit.
The suspect turned right onto Boykin Road, traveling westbound. I continued to provide updates on the suspect’s location to dispatch. Deputy Christopher Meyers (#124) advised dispatch that he would be entering the pursuit and positioned himself southbound at Boykin Road and Stone Road in an attempt to intercept the suspect.
While the suspect was traveling westbound on Boykin Road, he encountered Deputy Meyers at the intersection of Boykin Road and Stone Road. The suspect swerved to avoid Deputy Meyers’ patrol vehicle and then turned northbound onto Stone Road. The suspect disregarded all stop signs and subsequently made a left turn onto Travis Road, traveling southbound.
Deputy Meyers maneuvered around my patrol vehicle, gained the lead position, and successfully blocked the suspect’s vehicle at approximately [2200 BLOCK] Travis Road. The suspect brought the vehicle to a stop at that time.
Deputy Meyers and I conducted a felony traffic stop. Deputy Meyers ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, and the suspect complied with his hands raised. Deputy Meyers then attempted to place the suspect against the vehicle and instructed him to put his hands behind his back. The suspect became noncompliant, and both Deputy Meyers and I engaged in a physical struggle to gain compliance.
I was able to secure one of the suspect’s arms in handcuffs; however, I was initially unable to secure the second arm. Deputy Meyers then deployed his Taser. While maintaining control of the suspect, I repositioned to allow Deputy Meyers a clear deployment. The suspect was taken to the ground, and compliance was achieved.
The suspect was fully restrained in handcuffs and identified as David McMahon of [3000 BLOCK] Meadowbrook Drive, Augusta, Georgia. Dispatch was notified that the suspect was in custody, and he was placed in the rear of Deputy Meyers’ patrol vehicle (#124).
A passenger, identified as [REDACTED], was in the vehicle along with an 8-month-old child, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who was properly secured in a car seat. Ms. [REDACTED] stated to myself that David McMahon took her keys from her and prceeded to drive out of control with both her and her baby in the vehicle. I asked Ms. [REDACTED] if she and her child were unharmed and Ms. [REDACTED] stated that Both individuals were uninjured and declined EMS.
I issued citations to the suspect for:
Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer (OCGA 40-6-395) Citation #339128;
Reckless Driving (OCGA 40-6-390) Citation #339127
The suspect was additionally charged with:
Obstruction of Law Enforcement
Cruelty to Children in the First Degree

The suspect was evaluated by EMS on scene, denied any injuries, and was cleared. He was then transported to the Richmond County Jail on Phinizy Road, where he was booked without incident by Deputy Meyers.
As a result of David McMahon resisting arrest During the attempt to place the suspect in custody, Deputy Meyers sustained an injury to his right knee including bleeding, bruising and swelling caused by Mr. McMahon using his hands, feet and elbows to resist.
