On 04/25/2026 at approximately 2345 hours, Deputy Willetts, observed a Simple Assault in the area of N Hill St and Cherry St. in Griffin GA.
While traveling North on North Hill St. near Cherry St. in Griffin GA, Deputy Willetts, observed a silver in color BMW X5 displaying Georgia tag#[REDACTED] stop in the middle road. When the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway the passenger identified as Monica Dewberry ( B/F Dob /1991) exited the vehicle and threw a 12oz can of budlight at the driver identified as Bradley Evans (B/M dob /1972).
Deputy Willetts activated his emergency lights then exited his patrol vehicle.
When Deputy Willetts exited his patrol vehicle he made contact with Evans. Evans stated he was giving Dewberry a ride home from a party. Evans stated as he was about to pull up at her residence located at [500 BLOCK] N Hill St. she started yelling and cursing at him, then she exited the vehicle and threw the beer at him. While speaking with Evans his speech was very slurred and he had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Evans was asked to stand in front of Deputy Willetts, patrol vehicle while he made contact with Dewberry. While walking from his vehicle to Deputy Willetts patrol vehicle Evans was staggering and his balance was very uneasy.
Deputy Willetts requested an additional unit due to multiple parties on scene.
Deputy Willetts made contact with Dewberry, Dewberry stated Evans was giving her a ride home from a party and Evans asked her to have sex with her and she just snapped then threw the beer at him.
Upon Deputy Reeves arriving on scene he stood by with Dewberry while Deputy Willetts performed ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement) on Evans.
At this time the emergency lights were placed on the scene light setting, which is solid blue lights and non-strobe. Deputy Willetts made sure there was a clear path free of debris and a safe distance away from the roadway.
Evans was asked if he wore glasses, to which he stated yes but he did not have them on. Evans was asked if has he sustained any recent head trauma or injuries to his eyes, Evans replied “No”.
Evans was asked if he had any injuries to legs, knee, hips, or ankles that would prevent him from walking in a straight line or standing on one leg, Evans replied “Yes and I will not be able to perform the walking and one leg standing exercise”
Evans was instructed to stand with his feet together and hands by his side, he was then advised to stay in the position during the entire test. Evans was asked do you understand? To which he replied “Yes”. Evans was asked if he could see the tip of my finger which was being held in front of his. To which he replied, “Yes”.
At this point, I began the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test by observing that the pupils were equal in size and Equally Tracking. While checking for smooth pursuit, I observed a lack of smooth pursuit. I observed a distinct and sustained Nystagmus at maximum deviation. I then observed the onset of Nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. While administering the HGN portion of the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) six out of six indicators were detected.
Next Evans was advised to place his feet together and his hands by his side while given further instructions. Evans was asked if he understood, Evans stated,”Yes”
Evans was given instructions on how to properly perform the Modified Romberg Test by demonstrating what he was supposed to do. Evans was instructed to keep his feet together and hands by his side, tilt his head back and close his eyes and estimate the passing of 30sec. Evans was advised once he believe 30sec had passed to tilt his head back forward, open his eyes and say stop. Evans was asked if he understands the instructions, to which he stated “Yes”. Evans was advised to began, while Evans was perform this test he was observed swaying and his eye lids were twitching. Evans advised he was done with the test at approximately 45sec. In addition while giving Evans the instructions he started to due the test twice before being told to begin.
Next Evans was advised to place his feet together and his hands by his side while given further instructions. Evans was asked if he understood, Evans stated,”Yes”
Evans was advised the next test while a eye test, Evans was advised Deputy Willetts, will be making a circle in front of his face with his finger. Evans was advised while circling his face follow the finger with his eyes and eyes only do not move his head. Evans was advised the finger will come in toward his nose, but will not touch him. Evans was advised his eyes will feel like they are going to cross and to let them. Evans was asked if he understood the instructions, to which he stated,”Yes”. During this portion of testing lack of convergence was observed.
Next Evans was advised to place his feet together and his hands by his side with his pointer fingers out and the rest of his fingers in a fist, with his palms facing up while given further instructions. Evans was asked if he understood, Evans stated,”Yes”
Evans was advised this test is the finger to nose test. Evans was advised he will be given a series of commands which will consist of left and right. Evans was advised he is given these commands he is to use the tip his finger to touch the tip of his nose. Evans was advised if the command is left he will use the finger on his left hand to touch the tip of his nose and if the command is right he will use the finger on his right hand. Evans was advised after he touches the tip of his nose to place his hand back by his side. Evans was advised during this test he will tilt his head back and close his eyes. Evans was asked if he understood the instructions, to which he stated,”Yes”. During this test Evans failed to put his hand back by his side after touch his nose, until he was instructed to place his hand back by his side. Additionally Evans missed his nose twice and was moving his head to his finger instead of his finger to his nose during the test.
At this point, Evans was read Georgia Implied Consent, to which he agreed too. Evans was placed in handcuffs behind his back which were checked for proper fit then double locked and secured. Evans was searched then placed in the backseat of Deputy Willetts patrol vehicle, which was searched before and after he was placed inside. Evans was transported to the Spalding County Detention Center were he was turned over to jail staff, after medical staff did a blood draw.
The blood kit was placed in a locked and secured evidence locker at the Spalding County Sheriffs Office.
Evans was issued the following traffic citations- E24757(DUI Alcohol 2nd) and E24758(Open Container).
Evans vehicle was removed from the scene by B&R Towing.
Dewberry was arrested for Simple Assault reference case #2026-02369.
