On 04/05/2025 at approximately 2003 hrs., I responded in emergency mode to [1000 BLOCK] W Slaton Ave, which is located within the City of Griffin Spalding County Georgia, to a report of a dispute in progress.
Once on scene, myself and other GPD units would be met by a large crowd on the street in front of the residence of [1000 BLOCK] W Slaton Ave, actively arguing. I would make contact with one half of the dispute, (Ware, Calem) who stated after an altercation between his nephew (no longer on scene,) and another juvenile [REDACTED BY AGENCY] where [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had pushed another child, would be confronted by [REDACTED]’s uncle, [VICTIM #1].
[VICTIM #1] had allegedly (through Mr. Ware’s words) had pushed him, to which Mr. Ware pulled a knife, telling [VICTIM #1] to “back up off of him”. [VICTIM #1] would then produce his own knife, in reaction to Mr. Ware doing so.
I would ask other witnesses on scene the events that had transpired, and a large number of people from the crowd had stated that Mr. Ware had pushed [VICTIM #1] first, and then produced a knife to threaten [VICTIM #1]. Two witnesses [WITNESS #1] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had both witnesses the altercation, stating that Mr. Ware had pushed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] after the altercation between juveniles, to which [VICTIM #1] would confront Mr. Ware. The witnesses stated that Mr. Ware had then pushed [VICTIM #1], and brandished a knife towards him, to which in defense, [VICTIM #1] would brandish his own knife in return.
I would have [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [WITNESS #1] fill out two witness statement forms, which would be submitted into evidence at the time of this report’s completion.
Due to eye witness testimony, as well as on scene evidence, I would then place Calem Ware under arrested for Aggravated Assault (16-5-21), Simple Battery (16-5-23) and Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree (16-5-70). Mr. Ware was handcuffed to the rear, double locked, and checked for proper fit.
Mr. Ware was then transported to the Spalding County Jail, where he was turned over to jail personnel without further incident.
I will be seeking warrants for Calem Ware for Aggravated Assault (16-5-21), Simple Battery (16-5-23) and Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree (16-5-70) the next available day (04/06/2025).
