On 05-12-2026 at approximately 1933 hours, I Ptl. T. Bramlett 3800, responded in a non-emergency mode to Hobby Lobby located at 1424 N. Expressway, which is located within the City of Griffin Spalding County Georgia, in reference to a theft of a motor vehicle. I activated my departmentally issued, body worn recording device to capture the incident.

I made contact with Crystal Simon, who advised she arrived at Hobby Lobby at approximately 1930 hours in her husband’s black 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe bearing Georgia tag #[REDACTED]. Crystal stated that when she exited Hobby Lobby, she discovered the vehicle was missing. She also advised that she had left the key inside the vehicle.

I searched the vehicle through the Flock Safety System cameras, which showed the vehicle’s last hit traveling eastbound on E. McIntosh Rd at approximately 1829 hours in Spalding County, traveling in the opposite direction of Hobby Lobby.

Shortly after discovering this information, Dispatch advised that Spalding County Sheriffs Deputies were already out with the vehicle after it had been involved in an accident on E. McIntosh Rd. The vehicle was towed by Twisted Hook Towing at approximately 1858 hours, which was prior to the time Crystal stated she arrived at Hobby Lobby in the vehicle. See Spalding County case #2026-02742 for further information.

When I asked Crystal to confirm the time she arrived at Hobby Lobby, she then advised she arrived at approximately 1904 hours, which was still after the vehicle had already been discovered on E. McIntosh Rd. While I was speaking with Crystal, Ptl. Bell made contact with Hobby Lobby employees to review camera footage, which showed Crystal entering Hobby Lobby at approximately 1927 hours. Based on the inconsistencies in Crystal’s statements, it became clear that Crystal was being untruthful about the vehicle being stolen from the location.

Crystal was placed into handcuffs behind her back. The handcuffs were double locked and checked for proper fit. Before being placed into the rear of my marked patrol vehicle, Crystal made a spontaneous utterance stating that her husband, [REDACTED], was driving the vehicle when he struck a tree. Crystal stated she decided to lie in order to prevent insurance rates from increasing.

I then read Crystal her Miranda Rights, which she stated she understood and agreed to waive by speaking with me without an attorney present. Crystal later advised that she was cheating on her husband and had allowed her boyfriend to drive the vehicle. Crystal stated that when she discovered her boyfriend had wrecked the vehicle, she decided to make a false report in an attempt to cover up the incident.

Crystal was placed into the rear of my marked patrol vehicle, which was checked for contraband before and after transport with negative results. Crystal was transported to the Spalding County Jail without incident.

I will be seeking arrest warrants for False Report of a Motor Vehicle Theft.

Crystal was only able to provide the name “[REDACTED]” and a partial date of birth of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] age 35, for her boyfriend. Due to the limited information provided, I was unable to positively identify [REDACTED].
