On 08/04/2026 at approximately 0001 hours I, Deputy C. Jones (222) responded in non emergency mode to [600 BLOCK] Northside Dr APT [REDACTED] located within Spalding County in reference to a suspicious person.
When I arrived, I made contact with a black male lying on the stair well in building [REDACTED]. Myself and other deputies asked him to come down and talk to us to which he responded by calling us “ho*s” and going further up the stair well.
I told him again to come down and he did but continued walking out of the building past us and walking away from us. I asked him several times for his name and he continued to call us “ho*s” and “fa*gots”.
I told him I would ask two more times for his name before he goes in handcuffs. He then continued to walk away and yelled “Nance, DeShawn.”
I told him he did not need to walk away from us while we were getting his information in which he continued to walk away and I continued to follow him. He eventually sat down in the parking lot while yelling obscenities in a loud and boisterous manner. This was very close to windows of residence living in the apartment complex breaching the peace of those living there with the volume of these unprovoked obscene words.
I then assisted Deputy H. Dix with placing him in handcuffs while he continued to call us “ho*s” and “fa*gots”. He also stated he would spit in our faces. I observed Deputy Dix check the handcuffs for proper fit and she also double locked them.
He was placed in the back seat of Deputy Dix’s marked unit and she transported him to the Spalding County Detention Center.
After he was transported to the Detention Center, I got his name and information from jail staff since he would not give me his name and date of birth (Nance, De’ Shawn B/M ).
Approximately 20 minutes prior to this incident, the same individual was hitting and yelling loudly at another apartment door [REDACTED] for several minutes and the caller for this incident did not know who Nance was.
Nance will be charged with disorderly conduct (OCGA 16-11-39) and obstruction of law enforcement (m) (OCGA 16-10-24(a)). The warrant number and Judge information will be added in a supplemental report for this case during normal operating hours on 08/04/2026.
