On 05/15/2026 at approximately 2037 hours, I, Deputy Hudson was conducting a stationary patrol at the intersection of Chestunt St and Poplar St.
As I was conducting a stationary patrol, I observed a grey Nissan Altima (Georgia tag [REDACTED]) fail to come to a complete stop at the stop sign located at the intersection of Chestnut St and Poplar St. Utilizing my emergency lights and siren, I conducted a traffic stop on the grey I color Nissan Altima at [100 BLOCK] Peachtree St.
Before I was able to get out of my patrol vehicle, the driver, Mr. Jermaine Alford (BM DOB /1980), exited his vehicle. When I approached Mr. Alford, I smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming off his person. As I continued to speak with Mr. Alford, I observed him swaying back and forth as he walked. When I asked Mr. Alford if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages, he stated that he had two mixed drinks that contained liquor. Mr. Alford stated that the alcoholic beverages were in small glasses. When I asked Mr. Alford if he would participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Test, he stated yes. When I administered Standardized Field Sobriety Test on Mr. alford, I observed the following clues:
Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test:
Equal tracking – right and left eye
Lack of smooth pursuit – right and left Eye
Distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation – right and left eye
Onset nystagmus prior to 45 degrees – right and left eye
Total clues: 6
Walk and Turn:
Can’t keep balance during instructions
Starts too soon Misses heel-to-toe
Improper turn
Total clues: 4
One leg stand:
Sways while balancing
Uses arms to balance
Total clues: 2
After I finished administering Standardized Field Sobriety Test, I properly placed Mr. Alford in handcuffs double locked and checked for proper fit. After I informed Mr. Alford he was under arrest, I read him Implied Consent for ages 21 years and over and asked for the chemical test of his blood. After Mr. Alford gave consent for a blood draw,
I properly secured him in the right rear seat of my patrol vehicle, seatbelted in and transported him to the Spalding County Jail. After we arrived to the jail, a blood draw was conducted by medical staff and the blood sample was secured in a Georgia Bureau of Investigation blood kit. After the blood draw was completed, Mr. Alford was placed into the custody of the jail staff. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation blood kit was secured in evidence.
Mr. Alford’s vehicle was turned over to a licensed driver. The rear seat of my patrol vehicle was checked prior to and after transport.
I returned to duty.
