Officer’s Narrative:

On 04/22/24 at 1203 hours I, Sgt. Deason responded in non emergency mode to [SINGLE DIGIT BLOCK] Park Ave. in reference to a Domestic In Progress. Dispatch advised that a third party called in advising that her grandmother W/F [VICTIM #1] DOB /66 text her saying to call the police that W/M Meeks, John DOB /79 was trying to kill her. While en route to the location I had Spalding Dispatch confirm that John had an active Family Violence Order not to have any contact with [VICTIM #1]. The order was signed on 12/03/2024 and signed by Judge MacDowell.

Deputy Dildy arrived at the location and made contact with [VICTIM #1] who advised that John was inside the residence. Deputy Dildy stood by and waited for me to arrive. Once on scene Deputy Dildy went inside the residence while I went to the rear of the house. Deputy Dildy did not located John inside the residence. As myself and Deputy Dildy walked back to the rear of the residence again after the house was cleared we noticed John in the backyard of the residence. John immediately took off running after seeing myslef and Deputy Dildy and ignored all commands to stop. After losing contact with John, Deputy Dildy located him a short time later in the area of 5th St. and Cherokee Ave. where he was taken into custody. Deputy Dildy transported John to Detention.

I then returned to the residence and made contact with [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] stated that John came over to her residence on 04/20/2025 while she was not home between approximately 2100 hours and 2200 hours. [VICTIM #1] stated that John begin begging her for money and drugs and asking her to take him to the ATM to get money. [VICTIM #1] also stated that John was begging her to take him back and to be with him again. [VICTIM #1] advised that later that night/early morning that John became violent with her and refused to let her leave the house. [VICTIM #1] also stated that John took her phone and refused to let her make any phone calls. [VICTIM #1] stated that during this time that John became violent with her on several different occasions.

[VICTIM #1] stated that at one point they were in the bedroom and she tried to leave. [VICTIM #1] stated that when she got to the bedroom door that John slammed the door back shut while she was attempting to open it and pulled out a pocket knife. [VICTIM #1] stated that John grabbed her and spun her around and and told her that he was going to kill her and her animals. [VICTIM #1] stated that as she attempted to get past John to get back to her animals in the bedroom that John’s pocketknife stabbed her on her arm. I did locate a pocket knife in a chair in the bedroom which [VICTIM #1] stated was the knife that John had. A picture of the knife was taken.

[VICTIM #1] stated that at another point that John pulled out a hammer and held it over his head saying that he was going to kill her. I did locate a hammer in the floor of the bedroom. A picture of the hammer was taken as well.

[VICTIM #1] stated at another point that John pulled out a kitchen knife and came up to her at which time she put her hands up in front of her face to protect herself and John stabbed her on the arm with the knife. [VICTIM #1] showed me a orange knife in the kitchen which she advised was the knife that John stabbed her with. A picture of the knife was taken.

[VICTIM #1] also stated that at different times that John grabbed her, pushed her, and hit her. Upon looking at [VICTIM #1] she had multiple bruises on both arms and both legs. [VICTIM #1] stated that these bruises were from John hitting her and grabbing her. [VICTIM #1] also had two abrasions on her right arm which she advised were the two marks where she was stabbed. Pictures of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries were taken and will be attached with this report.

[VICTIM #1] stated that she finally convinced John to let her make a phone call due to him telling her that he was going to kill her and her begging him to make a phone call to tell her loved ones that she loved them. [VICTIM #1] stated that John told her that he would allow her to make one call. [VICTIM #1] stated that she called her grandaughter and remained calm during the conversation but was able to secretly text her while she was on the phone without John knowing saying to call the police that John was trying to kill her.

[VICTIM #1] did provide a written statement. My body camera was active for the call.

Warrants were obatained on John for Aggravated Assault FVA (25-EW-002684), False Imprisonment FVA (25-EW-002685), Violation of Family Violence Order (25-EW-002686), 2 Counts of Obstruction (25-EW-002687), Battery FVA (25-EW-002688).
