On Tuesday June 16th, 2026 between the hours of 15:00 and 15:30 p.m. Tattnall County Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant Ramon Powell was sitting in the drive through line of Mcdonald’s of Reidsville located at 108 East Brazell Street, when a vehicle in front of SGT Powell pulled out around a vehicle which was in front of it. This allowed SGT Powell to observe a white Lincoln MKZ four door sedan, bearing Georgia License plate [REDACTED] sitting in the same drive through line with the break lights on.
After a few moments the vehicle would not move forward. SGT Powell thought the vehicle may have been having mechanical trouble. Sgt Powell pulled on alongside the vehicle on the right front passenger to ask the driver if everything was okay. SGT Powell observed a white female sitting in the driver seat and appeared to either be having a medical issue or asleep. SGT Powell, exited his patrol vehicle and began to walk to the drivers window to check on the well being of the driver. As SGT Powell approached the vehicle, the driver noticed SGT Powell and appeared to lean over to the passenger seat attempting to hide something.
When SGT Powell approached the drivers window, he noticed the vehicle engine was still running and the gear shift was in drive mode. SGT Powell could smell a strong odor of what was believed to be alcohol and marijuana coming from the vehicle. When SGT Powell began to speak with the driver, he noticed her speak was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot red.
During the brief conversation SGT Powell also noticed two open beer cans in the cup holders next to the center console. Upon SGT Powell’s training and years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer, SGT Powell suspected the driver to be under the influence. SGT Powell asked for a drivers license and was handed a Florida ID Card issued to a Ashley Nicole Moody.
SGT Powell asked Mrs Moody to step out of the vehicle. Once Mrs Moody was out of her vehicle, SGT Powell placed her in the back seat of his patrol vehicle and with the in car camera activated, read Mrs Moody the Georgia Implied Consent. MRS Moody refused to agree to a state administered chemical test. Upon refusal, SGT Powell advised Mrs Moody, she was under arrest for DUI refusal, Open Container.
SGT Powell, conducted a inventory search incident to arrest. During the search, two open natural light beer cans was confirmed to be in the center console cup holders, a open can of natural light beer was discovered with beer still inside beside the front passenger seat and front passenger door. In the front passenger floor board was an 18 pack of natural light beer. SGT Powell also observed three pack of what is known as blunt wraps in the front passenger seat. The blunt wraps are consistent with marijuana use.
SGT Powell then conducted an inventory search incident to an arrest in the rear passenger area. During the search SGT Powell discovered a black plastic bag. Inside the black plastic bag was a clear plastic bag containing 59 balls of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, along with grinding device reddish in color.
These devices are commonly used to grind material into smaller particles and are consistent with grinding marijuana down to smokeable use in blunt wraps. Inside the grinding device was a green leafy substance,believed to be marijuana. Another pack of blunt wraps were also discovered inside the black plastic bag, which was consistent with the blunt wraps observed in the front passenger seat and next to the console.
Once the vehicle was turned over to Bobby Kennedy Towing, Mrs Moody was transported to the Tattnall County Jail. SGT Powell conducted a preliminary weight test of the green leafy substance, which resulted in approximate weight between 31 and 33 grams. The green leafy substance and the other items were photographed and placed into evidence to submit to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime for and official analysis and weight certification.
Further investigation revealed that Mrs Moody’s privilege to drive had been revoked.
Based on the totality of the evidence, Mrs Moody was charged with DUI Refusal, Open Container, Driving while license are revoked, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Related Objects.
