On Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at or around 1953 hours, Corporal (CPL) Gatto responded to [800 BLOCK] Old Collins Manassas Road, Collins, Tattnall County, Georgia in reference to an Aggravated Assault. While en route to the location, dispatch advised CPL Gatto that the offender, a Luis subject, left on foot and was traveling on Old Collins Manassas Road wearing blue jeans and a grey T-Shirt.
While approaching the scene, CPL Gatto observed a Hispanic male subject wearing the exact clothing advised by dispatch walking on the side of the road speaking on a cell phone. CPL Gatto stopped his marked patrol vehicle in the area of Emmanuel Lane and Old Collins Manassas Road to identify the subject and speak with him.
CPL Gatto activated his body worn camera before exiting his patrol vehicle. CPL Gatto asked the male subject what his name was and he began to speak in spanish. CPL Gatto asked the male subject if his name was Luis and he shook his head up and down and stated, “YES”.
CPL Gatto began to approach the male subject to speak further with him and he had his right hand in his front pants pocket. CPL Gatto advised the male subject to remove his hands from his pockets due to the information given from dispatch that he left the scene with a screw driver. The male subject did not listen to the initial command given by CPL Gatto.
CPL Gatto placed his hand on the male subjects right hand to gain control of the male subject so he could be detained while conducting his investigation of the incident. CPL Gatto began to place the male subject in handcuffs when he shifted his body to the left attempting to turn around. CPL Gatto pushed the male subject body against the front of his patrol vehicle to gain control and place him in handcuffs to detain him. At this time CPL Gatto was able to place handcuffs on the subject without further incident. CPL Gatto asked if he could search his pockets and the male subject stated, “YES”.
While searching the male subject, a red/black flat tip screw driver was located in the subjects front left pocket of his jeans. At this time Sergeant (SGT) Henderson arrived on scene. CPL Gatto advised SGT Henderson of the current situation. CPL Gatto placed the male subject in the back of his patrol vehicle while SGT Henderson proceeded to the complainants location.
CPL Gatto left the current location and proceeded to the victims location at [800 BLOCK] Old Collins Manassass Road. Upon arriving to the scene, SGT Henderson observed a white in color Dodge Ram Wagon van with a GA Tag [REDACTED] which was initially taken from the original scene at [800 BLOCK] Old Collins Manassas Road. The van had made contact with a white in color box trailer.
SGT Henderson began to speak with the victim, Mr. [VICTIM #1], while CPL Gatto spoke to the complainant and witness. According to the complainant, Ms. [REDACTED], who was translating for the witness, Mr. [WITNESS #1], the male subject who was identified on scene by name as Luis began a verbal altercation which turned into a physical altercation. According to Mr. [WITNESS #1], Mr. Luis Lopez began to approach Mr. [VICTIM #1] in a forceful manner while holding a screwdriver in an attempt to cause harm to Mr. [VICTIM #1]. SGT Henderson obtained further information from the victim Mr. [VICTIM #1]. Mr. [VICTIM #1] did state that he wanted to press charges on Mr. Luis Lopez.
Mr. [VICTIM #1] did state that he DID NOT give permission to Mr. Luis Lopez to take his work van. CPL Gatto left the scene to transport Mr. Luis Lopez to the Tattnall County Jail. SGT Henderson remained on scene to draw up a Criminal Trespass notice to give to the victim. Once CPL Gatto arrived at the jail a very strong odor of alcoholic beverages could be smelt from Mr. Luis Lopez breath. Due to the language barrier CPL Gatto had to obtain further information about Mr. Lopez from the Tattnall County Jail staff.
