Her Baby Was Sleeping RIGHT NEXT TO HER

In 1960, Black families in Ringgold, Georgia, were living under the threat of racial violence. Homes had been targeted, explosives had been planted, and residents had been threatened. Then, on May 19, 1960, a bomb exploded beneath the home of 32-year-old Mattie Green, a mother of six.
Mattie was killed, her husband and youngest son were injured, and her family was left searching for answers.
In this episode of Behind The Headlines, Joshua John investigates the unsolved murder of Mattie Green, the history of racial violence in northwest Georgia, and the possible connections to the Ku Klux Klan. We examine FBI records, competing theories about the bombing, and the federal investigation that reopened nearly 50 years later.
Why was the Green family targeted? What did investigators uncover? And why has nobody ever been held responsible for Mattie Green's death?
This is the story of a Georgia cold case, a family's decades-long search for justice, and a tragedy whose impact never truly disappeared.
