I was teaching the champs program at Stone Creek Elementary and I was just getting prepared. A 5th grade teacher came up to me and told me that she has a student that has asked her several times when I was going to be there because she wanted to talk to me about something an adult did to her about three years ago. I told her I would talk with her directly after the lesson.
I met with the young lady in the office along with an assistant administrator. She was very articulate about the things that happened to her on what she described as four separate occasions approximately three years ago (she could not recall the month or day). She described a situation where she was staying with her mother at the time along with four other siblings. She stated that the residence was only a two bedroom and couldn’t recall the location. She stated that she had to share a bedroom with all her siblings.
She described a male subject (suspect) who was staying with them at the time and was a friend of her mothers. She went on to say that this male friend of hers was allowed to sleep in the same bedroom and actually slept in the same bed as her. She explained that this guy seemed to take special notice of her and seemed to treat her special.
She stated that the first time he was laying next to her, he took her hand with his and guided [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and placed her hand [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and began to [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. She stated that she was afraid and pretended to be asleep. She stated that he did not do anything else but that, as far as she can remember. She did recall that the identical act happened on three other occasions, exactly as the first incident and she acted to be asleep each time.
The victim stated that she reported this to school officials back then and it was confirmed that in fact she had, and a dfacs referral was filed. As a result, the child was removed from the home of the mother and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was given full custody according to school officials. Law Enforcement was not notified until now.
I called [REDACTED BY AGENCY] which is listed as [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in this report. He readily recalled the incident and stated that because the suspect had moved to Arizona, he didn’t see much need to pursue it, plus he didn’t want his daughter exposed to anymore trauma. I explained to him that it appeared to me that his daughter was seeking closure with this which is why she asked to talk to me.
I closed the conversation with telling him that I would wait for him to speak with his daughter about this and let me know if he wants me to go forward with an investigation. The dad, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] called me three days later and revealed that he wanted to pursue charges because he found out that the suspect had moved back and was presently living in [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. He provided the present address where the suspect was residing. He went on to say that it’s because of this that he feels the need to protect his daughter and to make her feel safe.
