On the above date and time I responded to Advantage Behavioral Outpatient Center in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival, staff on scene ushered me to the victim, [VICTIM #1], who was in a office with another staff member. I could immediately see that she had a massive hematoma over her left eye. It was still slowly bleeding with just a small Band-Aid over a laceration on her left brow ridge, approximately 6cm in length.
I began to speak with [VICTIM #1]. She stated that she lives with her sister (Krisitin Whitlock), her mother [WITNESS #1], and two children [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. She state that her sister had become upset with the recent increase of their water bill. This was due, according to [VICTIM #1], to two factors. First, there was recently a water line break in the area and second, [VICTIM #1]’s son, [REDACTED], is special needs and still has issues with nocturnal incontinence. This causes [VICTIM #1] to need to perform laundry duties more frequently than the other residents. She stated that her sister began disputing her. She stated they had words back and forth for a bit; then the verbal dispute turned physical.
She stated that her sister began to strike her in the face. This caused her to begin to fall to the ground. She stated when she fell to the ground in the kitchen area, her sister began to beat her while she was on the ground. She was repeatedly struck in the face and had her head slammed in the floor multiple times. I observed the previously mentioned wounds over her eye and what appeared to be bruising around her neck as well.
EMS arrived on scene shortly thereafter, and began their assessment. When EMS advised her that she needed to go to the hospital for treatment, she began to cry uncontrollably. She stated that she did not wish to pursue charges, due to several factors. She was worried she and her son would be kicked out of her residence, that she would lose custody of her son, that she would lose her job at Whataburger, and these events were terrifying for her. I reassured her that I would see to it that she would have access to resources to assist her, but at the moment her priority was to be treated for her wounds. She consented and was transported to Piedmont Walton.
When I arrived at Piedmont Walton, I was joined by LT Reynolds. [VICTIM #1] went through the events leading up to her arriving at Advantage again. We then spoke with her son, who suffers from Autism. He was able to tell us that he was aware of the altercation as he was hiding behind the couch, crying because his mother was getting hurt. I then left [VICTIM #1] at the hospital and went to the residence where this occurred, [REDACTED].
Upon arrival, all parties were outside the residence. I made contact with Kristin. I asked her what had happened to her sister. She corroborated [VICTIM #1]’s account. She stated that during the dispute [VICTIM #1] had attempted to strike her, and that is when she struck [VICTIM #1]. She stated that she only struck [VICTIM #1] once.
I then spoke with their mother, [WITNESS #1]. She stated she did not see the fight start, but was able to break up the fight. She then gave [VICTIM #1] a Band-Aid for her eye laceration and drove [VICTIM #1] to Advantage, per her request, where she dropped her off. I asked if she had said anything to try and dissuade [VICTIM #1] from contacting the police or exert undue influence over what [VICTIM #1] would say or do upon having contact with the police. She confirmed that she did tell [VICTIM #1] to not press charges.
Based on the testimonial evidence as well as the physical evidence, I placed Kristin under arrest. She was transported to the Walton County Jail by OFC Harper. I then returned to the hospital, and advised [VICTIM #1] of the situation. We advised her that we could get a room for her via FISH charities, that we would be notifying Project Renewal to help her, and of the process as far as bond conditions of her sister.
Hospital staff advised [VICTIM #1] would be admitted to the ICU for at least the night, if not longer. I, at [VICTIM #1]’s request, went and spoke with her management at Whataburger and advised them of her situation.
Warrants for Aggravated Battery and Cruelty to a Child in the 3rd applied for.
