AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

On listed date and time, I responded to listed location in reference to a complaint of a domestic in progress between father and son, involving a hammer.

Upon arrival, I observed the son (Tyquavious Watson) holding a red and black hammer. I advised him to put it down. Cpl. Maynard waited and spoke with him outside while I made contact with his father (Gerald Watson). Mr. Watson informed me that his son’s girlfriend [WITNESS #1] was being rude to him. When he told his son about it, his son became aggressive and Mr. Watson stated he felt threatened. He retreated into his room and emerged with the red and black hammer.

He then stated that his son and girlfriend jumped him. He stated that he swung at them but was not sure if he made contact. He stated that the other girl took the hammer from him and placed it on the chair. Mr. Watson pointed to it, but it was a completely different type of hammer. This one had an orange handle and was a simple nail hammer. Mr. Watson’s story was inconsistent.

I then went outside and made contact with the two female subjects (sisters). I spoke with both of them. [WITNESS #2] stated that the Dad just became aggressive for some reason and as she was walking outside, in her periphery, she saw him swinging at the son. She stated that it appeared to be a hammer, but wasn’t sure. She would return briefly to get [WITNESS #1]’s daughter and take her outside. [WITNESS #1] stated that the Dad just appeared with the hammer and hit Tyquavious. Tyquavious responded by tackling his Dad to subdue him. [WITNESS #1] then removed the red and black hammer from the residence and threw it on the ground.

I then spoke with Cpl Maynard who showed me a picture he had taken of Tyquavious’ back. There was a mark in the shape of the hammer’s octagonal pattern with a small laceration. He then briefed me on what was discussed. I advised Cpl. Maynard that we would take Gerald Watson into custody for Battery.

We again made contact and I placed him under arrest. I then escorted him to my patrol vehicle where I allowed him to smoke a cigarette. Cpl. Maynard located a firearm belonging to Tyquavious and ran the serial number. It returned as being stolen. We then informed Tyquavious that he was also under arrest for the firearm offense.

Cpl. Maynard transported Tyquavious and I transported Gerald to the jail where they were both turned over to jail staff. I would later obtain a warrant for Battery FVA. Cpl. Maynard made contact with Major Burgamy and advised him of the situation. The jail was advised that he was on an investigative hold for Major Burgamy.
