On Thursday June 29, 2023 at approximately 0300 hours, Lt. Perdue advised Sgt. Farthing that a contraband drop was made at Washington State Prison Annex. Lt. Perdue and Sgt. Farthing proceeded to check the area surrounding prison property.
During that time Lt. Perdue advised that he observed a male subject with flashlight run into the woods on Highway 231 near S. Sparta Davisboro Rd. As Sgt. Farthing approached Mt. Zion church on Highway 231, he observed a Grey Jeep parked in the church parking lot.
Sgt. Farthing made contact with the Jeep bearing GA tag [REDACTED]. Sgt. Farthing then made contact with the driver James Elias. After speaking with Elias he admitted he brought another male subject later identified as Darnell Brown Jr. to the area to make a contraband drop at Washington State Prison.
Sgt. Farthing then secured Elias in the rear of his patrol vehicle. While Sgt. Farthing was with Elias, Sgt. Davis was able to locate and detain Brown. Sgt. Davis advised that Brown was a convicted felon and had in his possession a .380 Cal. hand gun.
