On Wednesday November 20, 2024, at approximately 1955 hrs., I Ofc. Perkins, responded to A Slice of Helen located at 8252 South Main Street in reference to a fight in progress.

Upon my arrival I met a large crowd of people pushing a male subject out of the door stating that he had hit another patron in the head with a barstool. I quickly got a hold of the male subject and removed him from the crowd of people so I could find out what had occurred. While speaking with the male Cpl. Achuff arrived on scene and I asked him to go see about the other person and find out if a barstool had actually been thrown. Moments later Cpl. Achuff returned and advised me to place the male subject into custody. As I told the male subject to place his hands behind his back having control of both of his wrist, he quickly pulled his hands away in an attempt to resist arrest. I then wrapped my arms through his locking his arms behind his back as he tried to pull away. I then used my arms and body weight to gain control of the subject by pushing him up against the front my patrol vehicle and requested assistance from Cpl. Achuff.

We then were able to gain positive control of his wrist and place him in handcuffs, we then moved him to the rear of my patrol vehicle to search his person before securing him inside the vehicle. During this whole interaction the Male subject was non-compliant and loud and boisterous and smelled of a strong odor of alcohol. When conducting the search incident to arrest I asked the male to spread his feet apart as I could not properly conduct the search of his person. He refused my multiple requests and so I used my foot and knee on the inside of his leg to force his feet to spread.

Once the search of his person was completed, he was placed into the back of my patrol vehicle, and we went to provide medical assistance to the victim inside the bar. There was a bystander who was assisting the victim by putting pressure on the wound that was bleeding heavily above his left eye, I provided them with gauze from my medical bag to help get the bleeding to slow down.

Upon the Arrival of EMS, the victim was turned over to them while we completed our investigation of the scene. Cpl. Achuff got one of the employees to provide us with the security footage which shows them escorting the male subject out of the bar for trying to start a fight near the pool table. The male subject was being escorted out by [VICTIM #1] DOB [REDACTED] and another unidentified male. As they were passing the bar towards the door the male subject tried to grab a bar stool and, in an attempt, to prevent the male subject from using it [VICTIM #2] dob [REDACTED] tried to grab it back from the male and was then hit in the head by it. Mr. [VICTIM #1] who was not struck by the barstool quickly grabbed the barstool and removed it from being reached again. Mr. [VICTIM #2] and the other unidentified male subject pushed the Male subject backwards in a manner of self-defense after the male subject used the barstool as an offensive weapon.

Mr. [VICTIM #2] was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville as a trauma due to a 4inch gash that laid the skin open above his left eye and several other small cuts on his head.

Mr. [VICTIM #1] reported no injuries but did provide me with a written statement of the events that led up to the assault on Mr. [VICTIM #2].

The male subject was identified as Larry Thompson dob [REDACTED] and was transported to the White County Detention Center and turned over the jail staff on a statement of charges while I concluded my investigation and sought warrants for his arrest.

I then returned to A Slice of Helen to collect witness statements from employees and to speak with Mr. [VICTIM #1] further. While speaking with him and reviewing the camera footage further it was determined that that the barstool was intended to hit Mr. [VICTIM #1] as he was escorting Mr. Thompson from the bar area. I then gave Mr. [VICTIM #1] a victim’s packet and had him fill out a victim’s notification request form. I also collected a statement from [WITNESS #1] dob [REDACTED] and [WITNESS #2] dob [REDACTED] who both saw the assault on Mr. [VICTIM #2] occur. Once all pertinent information was collected, I sought warrants for Mr. Thompson.

At approximately 0019 hrs., I, made contact with the emergency department to check on the status of Mr. [VICTIM #2]. The nurse informed me that stiches were required, and that Mr. [VICTIM #2] did not show any internal damage.
