On March, 10, 2022, Deputies Carter and Robledo were actively patroling the area of west Walnut Avenue and Abutment Road. Deputy Carter witnessed a 1994 red Ford F150 make an improper lane change. The truck activated its blinker and immediately changed from the right hand west bound lane to the far left south bound turning lane, in one motion.
Deputy Carter got behind the vehicle and ran the registration through GCIC/NCIC. It returned to Daniel Watkins and had valid registration and valid insurance. Deputy Carter initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at 902 Abutment Road (CSL Plasma). Deputy Carter made contact with the driver who was later identified as Daniel Watkins. Deputy Carter ran Daniel through GCIC/NCIC. Daniel returned with a suspended drivers license due to a Failure to Appear.
Deputy Carter informed Daniel that his license were suspended. Daniel contacted Elite Towing Service. Elite arrived and took control of the vehicle. Elite did not remove the vehicle from the parking lot. The wrecker driver moved the vehicle into a parking spot and secured the vehicle for Daniel.
Deputy Carter placed Daniel under arrest and escorted him to the Whitfield County Jail where he was turned over to the Booking personnel. Daniel did have a Taurus 1911 .45 Cal pistol with him, inside of the truck. Deputy Carter turned over the pistol to the wrecker driver due to Daniel knowing him personally.
Daniel was issued a citation for Driving While License Are Suspended 40-5-121 (301337) and a written warning for Improper Lane Change.
