On October 9, 2022 I responded to the area of 1200 Memorial Dr in reference to a male inside that had tried to set fire to his room.
Once I arrived on scene to the ER I spoke with the clinical manager [WITNESS #1]. She stated that Jerome Carter was there for a [REDACTED BYAGENCY] and was in one of the rooms. She stated that he put a piece of paper on his cane then lit it on fire with a lighter he had in his pocket. Carter then held the burning paper to the ceiling and then right under the smoke alarm trying to set it off. There is video of this whole incident. Carter was stopped by employees before any further damage could be done.
I then tried speaking with Carter but he refused to talk about anything or answer any questions. No major damage had been done and it appeared that the only damage was the smoke had left black marks on the ceiling.
I then asked [WITNESS #1] what they wanted done due to him having a [REDACTED BYAGENCY] and she stated they wanted to press charges because they did not want him there. I then placed Carter in handcuffs and transported him to the Whitfield County Jail where he was booked on warrantless# 66556 OCGA 16-7-22 and 16-7-61.
Video of the incident will be placed into property and evidence once it is available.
