On July 10, 2026, Deputy Cline was dispatched to [1200 BLOCK] Tunnel Hill Varnell Road in reference to a disturbance involving a firearm being discharged into a residence.

Deputy Cline and Officer Small arrived on scene and made contact with [VICTIM #1] at the front door of the residence. Deputy Cline observed what appeared to be a bullet hole through the glass portion of the front door.

[VICTIM #1] stated that a Hispanic male, later identified as Yunior Perez-Lorente, knocked on the front door. [VICTIM #1] advised that when he opened the door, Perez-Lorente produced a handgun and fired a shot toward him as [VICTIM #1] was closing the door. [VICTIM #1] described Perez-Lorente as wearing a gray shirt and stated that he had arrived in a red Dodge pickup truck.

While searching the area, Deputy Cline and Officer Small observed Perez-Lorente walking back toward the residence while waving his arms. Deputies issued multiple loud verbal commands for Perez-Lorente to stop and keep his hands visible. Perez-Lorente failed to comply with the commands.

Deputy Cline and Officer Small drew their duty weapons. Perez-Lorente then reached toward his waistband and removed a handgun. Deputies repeatedly ordered Perez-Lorente to drop the firearm. Perez-Lorente complied and placed the handgun on the ground.

Sergeant Guay arrived on scene and secured the firearm while Deputy Cline and Officer Small took Perez-Lorente into custody without further incident. During a search incident to arrest, Deputy Cline located seven loaded magazines in a waist bag worn by Perez-Lorente.

The firearm, a 9mm Beretta pistol with a loaded magazine, was collected and entered into evidence.

Deputy Sharp located the red Dodge pickup truck at [1300 BLOCK] Tunnel Hill Varnell Road, where Perez-Lorente had reportedly fled from prior to returning to the scene.

The investigation and crime scene were turned over to Detective Burnette and Sergeant Hayes for further processing. Deputy Cline transported Yunior to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office and was turn over to jail staff. Detective Burnette will complete charges.
